A CUP OF COLD WATER

Imagine being offered a cup of cold water on a hot day or when coming in from a long and tiring journey or when you’re thirsty. The relief and refreshing you get from it is instant; it cools you down and quenches your thirst. It enables you to rest and start again and suddenly that which seemed overwhelming to you becomes a little more bearable. You are able to see things with fresh eyes; you can cope better with the situation; you are even able to think about the circumstances and possible responses more clearly.
In most churches there are mid week services for just this purpose. Chances are most people attend these services after the day’s work, just at the time when you’re trying to wind down from a busy or problematic day. So what a pleasure it is to come into the house of the Lord and be preached to about God’s grace toward you; His amazing pity on you and His love beyond degree that sent Jesus to the cross to die for your sins. As we take each sip of the cold water of the promises of God to us, our souls comes to rest in the God who loves us and gave His all for us.
Today, I bring you a cup of cold water from Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end”. Beloved, God does not think thoughts of calamity towards you; rather He thinks thoughts of the excellent future you hope for yourself.  He thinks of how He can help you to understand His divine directions in your life and how He can get you to be all He intends for you to be. So, if you find yourself in a situation which seems to be overwhelming and you think that God has forgotten you, be assured by this cup of cold water that He will show up and take care of you. God knows what He’s doing. Remember that He had it all planned out from the beginning.
