Making Declarations from the Word of God
The words we speak are powerful and can affect us or
others positively or negatively. In the Holy Bible, God spoke many decrees
concerning us, which we can declare over ourselves and over any situation. When
we declare these decrees in faith, angels are activated to bring our words to pass, and the powers of darkness working against us
are defeated, forcing our situations to change.
However, the choice to agree, or
not, with God’s decree and declare them over ourselves or others rests with us,
because life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Mary,
mother of Jesus Christ, agreed with God that she would bear a son, despite the
fact that she was a virgin. She declared: “Behold the maid servant of the Lord!
Let it be to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).
On the contrary, Gideon did not
agree with the Angel of the Lord who called him a mighty man of valour whilst
he was hiding in a wine press threshing out wheat (Judges 6:11-14). Gideon even
accused God of abandonment in verse 13, when he declared that Lord had forsaken
them: “O my lord, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us?
And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did
not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered
us into the hands of the Midianites.”
Moses was instructed by God to send
one man from each of the tribes of Israel to spy out the land of Canaan, the
Promised Land, which He was giving them (Numbers 13:1-2). Moses sent twelves
spies to spy out the land and bring him a report. Their mandate is recorded in
Numbers 13:17-20. Ten of the twelve spies reported that they saw giants in the
land and declared that they were like grasshoppers in comparison and were
therefore unable to take the land. However, two spies, Joshua and Caleb, agreed
with God that it was a good land and declared that they were well able to take
the land. Since the ten spies did not agree with God, they did not go into
Canaan but died in the wilderness. Only Joshua and Caleb went into Canaan
(Numbers 13:25–14:10, 30).
One of my favorite decrees is: “You
are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden”
(Matthew 5:14). Based on this decree, I declare that: “I will do good deeds
every day, with the help of the Holy Spirit, so my light will shine in my home,
neighbourhood, and on all I come in contact with each day, and as they see my
good deeds, they will praise God.”
Today, I invite you to search the Holy Bible and find declarations to speak over your life, and see your life transformed.
